Money or Happiness?

They say, "Money can't buy you happiness," but is it entirely true? According to some studies, the more money people make, the happier they are. How do you feel about this topic? We would like to share the story of one of our team members.

"Before I started to work at Iconity, I had worked night shifts at a very stressful job for months in a row. You may ask, why would someone torture themselves by doing so? Well, the answer is money. I felt great while working night shifts for the first few months and was proud that I made more money than my friends; that’s what made me happy at the time. I didn’t have that many options on how to unwind during my free time, mostly because when I was awake, everyone else was asleep.

Over time, I became stressed, fatigued, with no energy or willingness to be social, and extremely lonely. At the end of the day, I ended up hating the only thing I was doing... the work. I realized that I had stopped doing any kind of activity I was used to doing before; I had also lost interest in all my other hobbies. In my free time, I would just stay in bed with my phone and was barely able to pick up my food delivery. I lost myself and didn’t know what to do.

One day, I received a connection request on LinkedIn from one of Iconity’s IT Recruiters who wanted to talk about cooperation. I learned about Iconity and its team during interviews and decided to make a change and stop the lifestyle I had. I knew I might go down in my salary. However, I wanted to try it out. In a short period, I adjusted to this change and started to notice the difference in my well-being.

I learned (the hard way) how important it is to have a balanced lifestyle. There is a nice saying, "learn from the mistakes of others," but I believe that we learn the most from our own mistakes, and it’s a part of life."

How do you feel about this?

Some people are workaholics; they are happy to do extra work, and that’s what fulfills them. Others work extra because their workload is too big and they are unable to fit it in with standard working hours, and some of us are chasing money at any cost. Again, how do you feel about this?
